Real-Time Engagement

Real-time marketing includes social media, blogs, videos, live streams, and personalized content that is designed to align the brand with consumer interests.  The methods should be responsive and authentic in order to capture the attention of the intended audience and engage in current conversations and trending topics. Real-time marketing creates a sense of relevance and immediate attention and allows marketers to connect with their audience at the moment. Real-time marketing is important to brands today because it allows marketers to capitalize on relevance and timeliness. Brands can respond promptly and stay up to date, increasing their chances of capturing and maintaining the interests of their target market, and allowing for increased engagement.

Real-time marketing is essential to public relations because it allows professionals to manage issues and crises promptly.  Public relations professionals can fact-check, provide updates, resolve conflicts, and reassure consumers. Real-time communication enables faster response times and minimizes the spread of potentially damaging content.  Real-time marketing methods allow marketers to adapt their strategies quickly by monitoring social media conversations, news, and trends.  The methods allow for agility in campaign messaging allowing them to align with current trends. Quick responses and adaptability demonstrate the brand's ability to stay current and connected with its consumers, further developing trustworthiness and relationships.

A good example of a successful real-time marketing use was Popeye’s in 2019. A Long Beach, California restaurant was caught reheating and reselling Popeye’s chicken strips at a huge markup, term the phrase #popeyesgate (Salguero, 2019). Popeye’s marketers capitalized on the news by first offering to bring their 2016 Chicken Sandwich to the small restaurant as a collaboration. From there, Popeye’s relaunched the chicken sandwich in all of their locations, starting a frenzy of buyers. The real-time marketing tactics included a strategic social media campaign that was extremely successful.  During the first 2 months of the campaign launch, the $3.99 sandwich sold out in all locations, multiple times with some buyers waiting up to 2 hours to get it.  Customers were able to benefit from the real-time marketing efforts of Popeye’s public relations professionals because the brand would post tweets on social media informing buyers of the locations that had chicken sandwiches in supply and also added the feature to the restaurant’s app (Kern, 2019).

Real-time marketing requires real-time monitoring, active engagement, and platforms that allow marketers to respond swiftly.  Methods can be effective for building consumer relationships, leveraging necessary content, and building brand loyalty using consumer-driven conversations.  Digital methods and social media channels are often utilized for real-time marketing because conversations, messages, and trends are disseminated quickly.  Real-time marketing gives consumers the opportunity to engage with the brand, increase the brand's visibility, and raise awareness of issues that are important to them, allowing the brand to actively participate in conversations. Marketers can use real-time marketing to develop content, deploy relevant messages, and create engagement for their brand.

Technology, Media, and Culture Improvement Plan

A plan for improving technology, media, and culture would be beneficial for professional communicators of news media.   Media professionals must embrace the latest technological advancements to enhance audience engagement.   Effective communication requires an understanding of diverse perspectives and professional communicators should participate in cross-cultural training and sensitivity training.   This can be done by collaborating with other professionals from diverse backgrounds to broaden their understanding. Media professionals should prioritize the use of ethical guidelines using available resources to prevent the distribution of misinformation (Walker, 2021).   News media professionals must prioritize verification and ethical sourcing methods to uphold standards of accuracy. This can be established by setting clear guidelines and investing in tools that cultivate a culture of transparency and accountability.   Comm...
